Building communities by bridging industries.

Forth Chicago

In an age of digital everything, staking a claim for analog community can be challenging. Having that effort not feel like icky, overdone networking requires a deep investment in intention, knowledge sharing, mentorship and, ultimately, creating time and space for the face to face.

In 2012, I co-founded Forth Chicago to help connect creative women entrepreneurs. Our initial vision was simple: quarterly salons, beautifully styled and themed around a topic of interest. We sent out invitations for the first event and crossed our fingers.

Twenty plus salons and six years later, we're still doing that. And more.

Beyond our hallmark salons, Forth works to amplify the work being done by the creative women business owners of Chicago and create space for the next generations of women entrepreneurs and industry shakers.

Julie is a master of connecting women and resources and a charming small group facilitator. With Forth, she's created an entrepreneurial community that's active and supportive as well as a forum for the types of vulnerable, behind-the-scenes conversations that move us forward.

For our members, we serve as a champion and bring bright women together. Their product launches, offerings, new business ideas and openings are all supported and celebrated through press pushes and offers of help. Member potlucks, social gatherings, ideation sessions, workshops and field trips all foster a trusted sisterhood and sense of camaraderie.

For the larger Chicago community, public events ranging from pop-ups shops to panel talks to teach-ins to speed mentoring all happen alongside our megaphone of a newsletter, Forth Approved. Our coordinators developed a multi-season podcast, Go Forth, and moderated full-house conversations about community and financial transparency.

We've evolved into organization focused on creating intentional events that celebrate and bolsters an inclusive and intersectional community for Chicago creative women.

Leveraging my years teaching and desire to community build, I plan and facilitate our salon conversations as well as member ideation sessions. I work with vendors and space managers and the press to plan and promote events of all sizes and coordinate the all-volunteer team of spectacular women who make Forth happen.

There are many networking events out there. We're something different.
